If you get your hands on mercenaries there are a few things you'll need to do if you wish to play online.  Part of the fun of these games are the variety and all the different maps to play on, but you have to download a bit of it.  These things are essential.  If you don't have a map you'll be kicked out of a gaming session.  If you don't have the patches and mekpak you can't play period.  Here are the links and aprox megs per file.

that first link is one we're all familiar with.  the "zone patch"  aprox  5 megs

this is a doozy.  aprox 43 megs.  includes new mechs, weapons, and skins.

this last link converts the maps from vengeance and black knight over to be usable in mercs.  even if you don't have those two games you can still download the maps and terrain files, but they are much larger.  my size estimates are assuming you have vengeance and bk installed.  vengeance maps aprox 7 megs.  vengeance terrain aprox 1 meg.  black knight maps aprox 6 megs.  terrain for black knight aprox 1 meg.

Ok I have't done many updates lately for Mercs but if you wish to play online you better get ready to download your butt off.  that's the one thing I can't stand about this franchise............the "fans" always update the freakin game and the whole community dl's every new update making it impossible to play online if you don't do so lol.  So here we go.  First off dl everything listed above.  Then go to mektek.net, click downloads and dl patch mp 1.1, mech pack 2, patch mp 2.1, patch mp 2.1a.  all of these files are pretty good size and take a long time to dl.  hopefully that's it for a while.  plus (strictly optional) there are a ton of maps you can dl if you want to.  so far I've had great luck just using the stock maps, and the veng and bk maps that were converted from that last original dl I had posted.  if you don't have a map you just get booted from that game.  If you don't update all the mech packs you can't even play period.

I had to remove the games from my system.  Took up too much space and they weren't getting any play time at all.
